A Christmas Baby
A Christmas Baby
Yes you read that right!
A new weenling will be joining us very soon.
He is one of the Alpine Wild Horses that were recently rounded up by the United States Forest Service in Arizona a few weeks ago.
Please Can You Help Us Bring Him Home?
Many of you will have heard about the United States Forest Service (USEF) capture of wild horses (they call them unauthorized livestock) that were rounded up by an independent contractor, Rail Lazy Z, to be sold via auction to the public. Over 300 horses were rounded up, and families of stallions, mares and babies seperated.
There has been quite a lot of controversy regarding the money fundraised by various non-profit organizations to buy these horses at auction. It’s believed that over 300K was raised but there is little known about where that money has actually gone, and indeed where those horses are now. When we asked for some transparency we were called out on social media and not in a good way.
Anyhow on the 15th – 16th of December another auction of around 13 weanlings was held at the Navajo Fairgrounds in Arizona by the same contractor. We decided to register to bid for that one. We got all our ducks in a row, somewhere for the weenling to stay, coggins tests and bloodwork and pick up from the fairgrounds.
To cut a long story short, we ended up winning the bid on a weenling which has helped us not only rescue this baby but has given us an insight into the workings of how the USEF operates when it comes to wild (unauthorized) horses. More about this to follow.
BUT THERE’S A CATCH! AND YOU PROBABLY GUESSED WHAT IT IS…
In order to continue our rescue of this baby we need financial help!
So far we estimate our costs will be:
- $350 to Purchase him at Auction
- $388.50 for Coggins Test and Blood Work
- $1750 for Transport to California (estimate)
- $800 for Hay
- $900 for Board/Quarantine
- $1000 for Veterinary Care (immunizations etc.)
- Plus as at yet unknown amount we will need to pay to Equine Wellbeing Rescue who are looking after him for us until all his tests come back.
Total Costs: $5188.50 approximately. Not Including Payment to Equine Wellbeing Rescue.
Are You Able to Spare Some Money to Help us Bring Him Home?
These wild babies have no voice to protest their capture. They are torn from their families cruely and abrubtly, placed in holding pens to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. It’s up to us to speak for them so please consider helping us today.
